Assessment of Safe, Caring and Welcoming Schools
School leadership teams are held accountable to Alberta Education’s accountability pillar results by senior administration and school boards. The accountability pillar provides school boards with data to inform areas that need improvement, show how schools are performing and set goals for the future. The bimodal nature of the data provides school board authorities with both school and provincial results allowing comparison to identify areas of growth and areas of celebration. The accountability pillar survey results are the main source of data for school boards and senior administration but the assessment framework for “safe and caring schools” (Alberta Government, 2015, p. 3) yet administrators and teachers know very little about the knowledge, skills and dispositions that students value in safe and caring schools.
