Construct of Safe, Caring and Welcoming Schools

​From the scholarly journal articles published hypothesizing constructs of safe and caring schools and the articles based on empirical research, I have developed an initial construct of students’ perception of safe and caring schools (see Figure 1). From my research (see Appendix), students’ perception of care is based primarily on teachers’ overt skills. Teachers’ dispositions, knowledge and school culture contribute to and develop the teachers’ skills, all of which result in a safe and caring school environment. Students decode teacher skills and analyze whether the skills contribute to a safe and caring school environment.
